On Thursday, Apple released a totally redesigned version of iTunes.

Apple promised iTunes users that a new version of the music player would come October, but that promise was delayed until November.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, "the new iTunes has been delayed a month by engineering issues that required parts to be rebuilt, according to people who have seen it."

Cult of Mac called iTune 11 simpler, faster, stronger."

"Apple understands that people might feel discombobulated by the changes in iTunes 11, so it has put a helpful overlay in place to guide you to the essentials," Giles Turnbull wrote. "This is also where you have to make a decision: will you "share details about your library with Apple" or not?"

The Independent said the music player "remains much the same as it has always been."

"At a glance, the visual redesign is an instant hit, with music selection laid out in a far more logical manner that ever before," Jamie Lewis wrote. "Look beyond the interface, however, and iTunes 11 could be considered exactly the same as its predecessor. However, the design changes make it a must-download for any iTunes user."

Jonny Evans of Computer World called iTunes 11 a speed demon.

"Faster, slicker and prettier, iTunes 11 goes a long, long way toward shrugging off previous complaints at its performance," Evans wrote. "I'm sure more cautious users may delay installation for a few days pending the emergence of any major faults, but in the absence of such reports, this is a must-have upgrade. I'm really, really pleased at how much more responsive it seems to have become."

Gizmodo said while iTunes 11's cosmetic changes are nice, there are still five features that the music player still need.

The tech blog said iTunes need a music subscription service like Spotify or Pandora, A web player for iTunes Match, real discovery, better social sharing and a separate iTunes store.
