With the 2014 World Cup in Brazil less than two months away, numerous players around the globe continue to play at high levels in order to impress their respective national team coaches. While certain rosters are on the verge of becoming finalized, others still need tweaking, and with this year’s version of the summer tournament holding the potential to be one of the most competitive in recent time, each of the 32 teams will need the best talent available. Set to appear in their sixth consecutive World Cup, the Mexican National team and first-year boss Miguel Herrera are still analyzing a deep pool of talent and while many hopefuls still remain, perhaps the most popular non-guarantee is a current full-time talent in Europe.

Due to lack of playing time with defending Barclays Premier League champion Manchester United, Mexican international Javier Hernández isn’t sure if he’ll be in Miguel Herrera’s rotation when the World Cup begins in June. Though his 64th-minute goal in United’s recent 4-0 BPL triumph over Newcastle United certainly gave the national team boss and Red Devils coach David Moyes a glimpse of his talent, the 25-year-old striker is still clamoring for more of an opportunity, especially since he proved his value for 90 minutes against Newcastle. With stars Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie battling injuries, Hernández looks to fill the void with continued success.

“I'm happy, I played for 90 minutes and it's a long time since I started a game,” he said following last weekend’s shutout victory. “The World Cup is coming so I need time to prove, whether they give me one minute or 90, that I'm ready and that I want to contribute to the team to help us have a better season. It's been a very hard season for me, but I'm trying to be very patient, and to work to try to speak on the pitch. I have nine goals at the moment, so I'll keep working, be patient and speak on the pitch like I always do.”

Despite being eliminated by Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the 2013-2014 UEFA Champions League, Manchester United still have five matches remaining in the Premier League. Contests against Everton, Norwich City, Sunderland, Hull City and Southampton will be the final opportunities for the Red Devils to try to land a top four finish while also serving as additional moments for Hernández to further showcase his talents to both David Moyes and Miguel Herrera.
