Javier Milei, America Ferrera among Latinos included in TIME's 100 Most Influential People of 2024

TIME revealed on Wednesday its list of 100 most influential people of 2024, with four Latinos making the list: Argentine president Javier Milei, actors America Ferrera and Colman Domingo and Brazil's Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva.

As usual, the list was divided into five different categories: Artists, Icons, Titans, Leaders, Pioneers and Innovators.

Milei and Silva were included in the category of Leaders along figures such as Yulia Navalnaya (Russian dissident Alexei Navalny's widow), Narges Mohammadi (Iranian Human Rights activist) and Greg Abbott (governor of Texas).

Domingo was included in the Artist category alongside names like Dua Lipa, Dev Patel and Jeffrey Wright, while Ferrera made the Pioneers, which also included personalities like Ophelia Dahl (social justice advocate), Kennedy Odede (Kenyan author) and Yoshua Bengio (computer scientist).

Each personality on the list was accompanied by a short profile written by either a TIME correspondent or one of their peers.

In Milei's case, the task fell on Vera Bergengruen, a TIME senior correspondent based in D.C. who covers the overlap of national security, politics, and technology. "While it's too soon to tell whether the new President's measures will succeed", wrote Bergengruen, "it's clear that he has been right on one thing: with Milei in office, there will be no going back for Argentina."

Marina Silva's profile was written by Costa Rican climate advocate Christiana Figueres. She wrote that "deeply grounded courage and unflinching tenacity define this remarkable woman" and highlighted the fact that "she is rebuilding Brazil's capacity to halt rampant illegal deforestation in the Amazon, a mission that has been at the center of her political and activist life."

Colman Domingo's profile was written by legendary musician Lenny Kravitz, a friend of the actor, who signaled out that "he is completely honest and true to who he was created to be, and he does everything with such grace, humility, and gratitude." As for America Ferrera, fellow actress Blake Lively wrote that "the power of America is she doesn't transform and disappear into a role as we're so trained to think we want—America transforms and appears."
