On Sunday, Foreign Minister Javad Zarif told the Iranian parliament that John Bolton's 2020 Book could be evidence that Trump's Maximum Pressure Strategy is designed to radically overthrow the Iranian regime.

According to a report, Bolton's book entitled "The Room Where It Happened" has been cited by Zarif after it was published last month. The book is a White House 453-day memoir accounting his experiences and reflections in the decisions that have been taken by Trump -- most of which were allegedly driven by reelection calculations.

Rather than to pressure the government to adopt more moderate foreign policy and nuclear ambitions, Zarif said that the book revealed Trump's truest intention which is to bring down the regime.

In an interview with a Mehr news agency, Zarif announced that the U.S. may be threatened by how the Islamic Republic continues to be a rising power.

"If you read John Bolton's book, you will understand all these aims that are hidden in all U.S. policies against Iran which they call 'maximum pressure," he added.

Having served three Republican presidents, the former National Security Adviser is known for his tough approach to Iran. In the past, he backed a militant group in the hopes of bringing down Iranian theocracy.

In 2019, he prevented a meeting between Trump and Zarif and the G7 meeting in France. This was reportedly in response to an urging by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

After Trump took office in the White House, the relations between the U.S. and Iran have since been strained. The Trump Administration not only withdrew from the Iranian nuclear deal, but it has also re-imposed sanctions on the country.

These sanctions, suggested by Trump as one that limits Tehran's nuclear program and ballistic missile research program, have been dismissed by Iranian leaders. To them, this maximum pressure strategy is "economic terrorism" in its essence, and has since been soliciting international assistance to stop America's aggressive stance. Open conflicts have been engaged by both sides which included sabotage attacks, airstrikes, and missile attacks.

Zarif claimed that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's inability to solicit the support of fellow United Nations Security Council members is proof that Washington, D.C. is "isolated."

He added that the U.S. is encouraging strife between the Iranian people and the regime and that it is taking advantage of the negative reactions of its people in relation to the country's poor economic conditions.
