Salma Hayek was one of the presenters during the Oscars 2017 and contrary to Gael García Bernal, she did not use her platform to go political and say something about Donald Trump. This did not go unnoticed by social media and in particular fellow Mexican actor Kuno Becker. He took to Twitter to call Hayek out: "Good for Gael. Salma, it's sad seeing a Mexican being passive when we have been so denigrated as a country. How can one not say anything."

When Bernal presented alongside Hailee Steinfeld the Best Animated Feature at the Oscars 2017, he made a powerful statement before announcing the nominees. "Flesh and blood actors are migrant workers," he said. "We travel all over the world, we build families, we construct stories, we build life that cannot be divided, as a Mexican as a Latin American, as a migrant worker, as a human being, I am against any form of all that wants to separate us."

Being that there was few representation of Latinos at the award show, many sought to Bernal and Hayek to denounce Trump's actions against Mexicans and Latinos. Hayek has been vocal about Donald Trump in the past. During the campaign trail she stopped by the Jimmy Kimmel late night show and addressed the border wall situation.

Salma Hayek said that she has met Donald Trump, but has not seen him ever since he got into politics. “I feel like you are the only person that could talk any sense into him,” Kimmel told her. “If you speak, he is going to listen.” Salma was not too sure that Trump would listen to her. This is where she came up with the perfect solution to have the former “The Apprentice” host come into his sense. We’ve all tried to talk to Donald and make him reason and see that his view is not right and exclusionary. “You don’t need to talk sense in to him. Everybody is entitled to their own madness,” she said. “You need to talk sense into the people who are not seeing the madness.”
