A far-right activist and Trump ally harshly criticized Robert Prevost, the first American Pope in history, calling him a "Marxist puppet" over messages he amplified on social media.
Laura Loomer, who has met with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, responded to a post from Prevost which included a link to a piece written by Cardinal Michael Dolan in 2015 and which criticized then-candidate Donald Trump's "anti-immigrant rhetoric."
THIS IS THE NEW POPE!

His name is Robert Prevost.
He’s the first American Pope.
He is anti-Trump, anti-MAGA, pro-open Borders, and a total Marxist like Pope Francis.
Catholics don’t have anything good to look forward to.
Just another Marxist puppet in the Vatican. https://t.co/S45vZ8IaKM
"He is anti-Trump, anti-MAGA, pro-open Borders, and a total Marxist like Pope Francis. Catholics don't have anything good to look forward to. Just another Marxist puppet in the Vatican," Loomer said.
Prevost's views on certain issues, especially immigration, are dominating headlines as he becomes the first U.S. Pope in history. Prevost, now known as Leo XIV, has shared several articles slamming Vice President JD Vance for asserting that Catholicism supports President Donald Trump's mass deportations policy.
Vance had already come under fire earlier this year from Catholics and religious leaders after he accused the "far-left" of hijacking Christian ideology to fit their narratives during a Jan. 29 Fox interview.
"There is a Christian concept that you love your family and then you love your neighbor, and then you love your community, and then you love your fellow citizens, and then after that, prioritize the rest of the world. A lot of the far left has completely inverted that," Vance told Fox back then.

The claim quickly drew backlash online, including from Prevost, who reposted an opinion piece by the National Catholic Reporter on Feb. 3 claiming that "JD Vance is wrong."
It wasn't the only such stance. Pope Francis, who died April 21, had published a letter Feb. 11 labeling Trump's deportations "a major crisis" and encouraged Catholics to "not to give into narratives that discriminate against and cause unnecessary suffering to our migrant and refugee brothers and sisters."
Prevost then reshared an article by American Magazine, which analyzed his predecessor's letter and how Catholicism's holy scriptures interpret immigration. Leo XIV repeatedly remembered Francis during his inaugural allocution, thanking him for his work.
Trump has not echoed criticism of the pope so far. He said it was an "honor" for the United States to have a pope and said he looks forward to a "meaningful" meeting with him.
