There are new updates about Malaysia Airlines flight 370. Malaysia’s prime minister said that someone deliberately diverted the aircraft and shut down communications with the ground and that the jet continued flying for six hours. Now, due to this announcement, the focus has shifted to the crew and passengers on the plane.

Evidence of a plot by Malaysian religious extremists to hijack a passenger jet is being investigated in connection with the disappearance of flight MH370.

The investigation turned into a criminal investigation that includes the vanished crew and passengers. Details will now be picked apart about each passenger and crew member and their background. Police are looking at the personal, political and religious backgrounds of the crew members, as well as ground staff, as reported by Reuters.

CNN reports that the number of nations involved in the search has now grown from 14 to 25, and now includes Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, China, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, France, the UK and the United States.

A pilot spoke to Malaysian air traffic control after a signaling system on the plane was disabled but did not indicate there was anything wrong when he communicated with ground control, the New York Times reports.

Malaysian police have searched the pilot’s homes and the possibility of hijacking has not been ruled out. The new conclusions are that an experienced pilot is likely responsible for the plane’s disappearance. This has definitely broadened the search area. It is said that it is unlikely that the plane flew over Central Asia. This means that its path was more likely a southern corridor to the west of Australia. Stay tuned to these ongoing investigations.
