An Indian man has been accused of strangling his 21-day-old daughter to death. Police said that the infant was murdered after the man had a fight with his wife.

The accused, Sushil Kumar Pal, has been arrested for killing the child, Shivani, in Bhaiya village in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Saurabh Dixit, Superintendent of Police (trans-Yamuna), Pal's wife Sunita Devi was staying with her parents after she delivered their daughter, reported The Times Of India. The officer said that Pal had fought with his wife on the phone on Tuesday morning. He later reached his wife’s parents house. Things got heated up, and then in a fit of rage, the accused strangled his daughter to death and fled.

The Meja police were informed about it. They arrested him while he was fleeing from the village. After getting caught, he told police that he got married to Sunita about six years ago and they have a son too. He claimed that the couple used to have arguments over domestic issues and that she never used to hear out his problems.

A police officer said that they are also checking whether the man is “mentally stable or not." While police are conducting an investigation into the incident, they have been also talking to Pal's parents and his relatives to collect more details about him.

A case has been filed regarding the murder of the child.

In a separate incident that took place in south Delhi’s Dera village earlier this month, a 26-year-old woman allegedly strangled her infant son to death after an argument with her husband, reported Hindustan Times.

The woman, Jyoti, and Satveer Tanwar tied the knot in 2011, said Harsha Vardhan Mandava, additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South). Police said that the couple fought over taking the 11-month-old child to a hospital since he was down with fever. Jyoti's relative, who informed the police, tried to mislead them by saying that it was Tanwar who killed his son.

Police also reached the hospital where the baby was taken by his father and other family members. Jyoti later confessed to police that she had strangled her child with her dupatta. She has been arrested and booked for the murder of the infant.
