A man reportedly chopped off his wife's hand using a knife following a domestic quarrel at Kanakary near Kottayam, Kerala, India on Friday, Oct. 14.

The assailant, Pradeep, an alcoholic, and his wife Manju, used to get into heated arguments frequently and had been arguing over the past few days. After each fight, Pradeep used to apologize to Manju and used to promise her that he will refrain from fighting with her again, Times Now reported.

However, despite the promises, Pradeep used to come home drunk and engage in heated arguments again.

On Friday, Oct. 14, a similar argument ensued between Pradeep and Manju. However, as the argument escalated, Pradeep, in a fit of rage, picked up a knife and attacked Manju with it. During the attack, Pradeep allegedly chopped off his wife's hand with the knife. The couple's 10-year-old daughter witnessed the attack and attempted to intervene and pull her father away. However, she also sustained minor injuries in the attack, LatestLY reported.

"As soon as I heard of the incident, I reached their home and saw Manju lying in a pool of blood. Manju was immediately rushed to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital. We are told that the surgery is going on with the doctors trying to attach the severed hand," said the local councilor.

After the brutal attack, Pradeep fled the scene on his two-wheeler. Officers have launched a man-hunt to nab the accused at the earliest.

The couple has a 13-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl together.

In a similar but unrelated incident, an Indian man has been accused of brutally chopping off his wife's nose following a heated argument over his drinking habit and unemployment on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, as previously reported.

The violent confrontation transpired in Barkheda Bondar village under the Khajuri Sadak Police Station in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Pritam Chaure, 30, who worked as a laborer, was left triggered and irate after his wife Manisha, 32, repeatedly nagged him about finding work and berated him to stop drinking alcohol. On Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, at around 11 a.m, Chaure reportedly approached Manisha and her sister Rekha who were waiting for an auto-rickshaw outside their residence to go to the police station.

The suspect allegedly called his wife into the home to talk to her. When she entered the house, however, Chaure proceeded to attack her with a knife and lop off her nose. Rekha immediately rushed Manisha to a nearby hospital with the help of her neighbors.
