A man allegedly killed his neighbor with a hammer after he was told off to repair his house in Kesri village, Haryana, India on Wednesday, May 18.

The accused, identified only as Krishnan, allegedly nursed a grudge against his 52-year-old neighbor, Memo Devi, a laborer who used to work in Krishan's house, after she asked him to attend to a portion of his house which was falling into disrepair. Krishnan, who reportedly felt upset by her comments, subsequently confronted her and allegedly attacked the victim with a hammer and killed her, the Times Of India reported.

"My nephew had a narrow escape after chhaja (cantilever) of Krishan's house fell on the street about 15 days ago. My mother had then asked him to repair the chhaja as it could be harmful," said Jasbir, Devi's son.

On Wednesday morning, May 18, while Devi went to attend to cow dung on her property, Krishan followed her, walked up to the woman and began arguing with the victim. He then pulled out a hammer and allegedly bashed her in the head two to three times and fled the scene.

Devi, who suffered grievous injuries in the attack, was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Mohri village for treatment. However, she was declared dead upon arrival by hospital officials.

Following the incident, officers booked Krishnan under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In a similar but unrelated incident, a Texas man reportedly shot his neighbor to death following a heated argument stemming from the neighbor's dog running into his yard in April 15 2022, Latin Times reported.

On Friday, April 15, at around 2:45 p.m, the suspect, Eric Lee Elliott, 70, and victim William Duncan Womack, 60, reportedly got into a fight after Womack's dog ran loose into Elliott's yard, on County Road 2683 while he was doing yard work.

Later, when Elliott saw Womack’s stepdaughter, he told her that he would kill their dog if they failed to keep the animal out of his yard. When the stepdaughter told Womack about what Elliott said, he went outside to the street to confront Elliott. The duo engaged in a heated argument. Out of rage, Elliott kicked Womack in the leg and pulled out a .45-caliber handgun from his waistband, before shooting the victim in the stomach.

According to witnesses, after mercilessly shooting Womack to death, Elliott put his gun in his truck and continued doing yardwork as if nothing had happened.
The witnesses alerted the officers about the incident. When the first responders arrived, they found Womack lying motionless on the street. He was immediately airlifted to a hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead.

The officers reportedly arrested Elliott at the scene and charged him with murder. He was booked into the Liberty County Jail and held on a $1 million bond.
