An unemployed 50-year-old man killed his elderly parents after they reportedly refused to assist him financially and give property share.

The incident happened at his parents' residence in Shivaji Chowk area in Patna, India on Thursday, reported Times Now News. The victims were identified as Braj Kishore Prasad Singh, a retired physical education teacher, and his wife Kamal Lata Devi.

Wife and son of the accused man, Rajan Kumar, reportedly helped him in murdering the elderly couple.

Rajan told the police that his parents died due to Covid-19. But the police got suspicious when they spotted strangulation marks around the necks of both victims.

The accused, his wife, Sanju Kumari, and son, Avinash, had made arrangements to take the bodies for cremation.

City SP [east] Jitendra Kumar said that there were bloodstains in Avinash’s nail, which strengthened the suspicion of the police.

On Friday, Rajan, his wife and son were arrested. During questioning, Rajan admitted to murdering his parents.

Ramkrishna station SHO Rajeshwar Prasad said that Rajan had earlier tried to murder Singh when the latter hadn’t retired. His intention was to get his father's government job on compassionate grounds.

In another case involving a senior citizen, a teenage girl and her lover along with four friends killed her 62-year-old grandmother last week over money and gold. In connection with the murder of Vijaya Tiwalkar, police caught four of the six people in Maharashtra, India, reported The Times of India.

Nilesh Paunikar, Qadir Khan alias Baba, Farid Zakhir Ansari and Mohd Qamre Alam were arrested for stabbing Tiwalkar to death. The victim’s granddaughter and her boyfriend are yet to be caught.

Tiwalkar, who retired as a cook with State Reserve Police Force, had got her job on compassionate grounds after her husband's death. Her granddaughter and her boyfriend made a plan to steal Tiwalkar’s cash and gold. They also took help of their friends to commit the crime.

The accused could find some cash and a couple of ornaments before fleeing Tiwalkar’s place. They had received about Rs 2,300 from the granddaughter and her boyfriend before running away.

City police chief Amitesh Kumar said that it was unthinkable how a teenager could come up with a plan to kill her grandmother for money and valuables. “The masterminds will be nabbed soon,” he said.

“The gang had no prior criminal record," he added.
