A man who was allegedly trying to break into a Florida home through a window was shot and killed by the resident inside the house on Monday, Jan. 2.

Deputies from the Lake County Sheriff's Office responded to the home in Lady Lake in Florida in reference to a burglary in progress. According to the 911 call, a man, identified as 35-year-old Ryan Michael Baldasare, had forced his way into a home on Lakeview Street through a window on Monday, Jan. 2 at around 5:30 p.m, FOX 35 Orlando reported.

When the burglar broke into the home, the suspect was confronted and shot dead by an individual within the home. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The suspect was confronted by an individual within the home at which time he was shot. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene," the sheriff's office said.

According to the deputies, the shooting incident appeared to be a case of self-defense. The deputies added that the victim is cooperating with them, ClickOrlando reported.

The investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a man shot and killed a maintenance worker after suspecting that he was a burglar attempting to break in, as previously reported.

The victim, identified as Cesar Montelongo, 53, was checking pipes at the Clayton Point Apartments on Alouette Drive in Grand Prairie on Christmas Eve. Montelongo was standing on a balcony at around 6 p.m. when the resident of that apartment noticed him. The resident mistakenly believed that his apartment was being burglarized by Montelongo. He immediately grabbed a gun and shot Montelongo through the window.

When officers responded to the scene, they found Montelongo lying on the balcony with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment. However, despite the efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to detectives, Montelongo was checking frozen and broken waterlines in the apartment building after several pipes on the property had ruptured earlier. Following the shooting, the resident remained at the apartment and cooperated with detectives in the investigation.

Montelongo, who is survived by his wife and five sons, was killed just a day before his 29th wedding anniversary.
