An Alabama man was shot dead by his wife’s lover who had been secretly living in the couple’s home for over a year.

According to the Mobile County Sheriff's Office, on Aug. 15, at approximately 9:00 p.m., deputies responded to a home on Skidmore Road in Creola, after receiving alerts about a shooting incident.

Responding officers found two men with gunshot wounds and transported them to a local hospital for treatment.

The homeowner, Frank Reeves, suffered a gunshot wound to his chest. He was shot by 53-year-old Michael Amacker who was also injured during a gun battle between the two.

Frank fired multiple shots at Amacker, striking him in the lower leg and elbow.

During the investigation, MCSO detectives learned that Frank’s wife, Tracy Reeves, alerted her husband that an intruder was inside their home.

However, it was later discovered that Amacker was Tracy’s longtime boyfriend and had been living in the home for over a year and Frank had no clue about it.

She had allowed him to stay in the house and had been secretly delivering him food.

"There were bottles of urine in the room which indicated he had been in there for a little while," Mobile County Sheriff’s Capt. Paul Burch said.

"It was just a very odd scene to work," Burch said. "It’s something that I haven’t seen in 30-plus years."

Investigators noted that Amacker and Tracy were both high on meth, and were too incoherent to be interviewed on the scene.

"Another thing with meth," Burch said, "people that are on meth not only do they have paranoia, they can’t keep their mouth shut. So if there was some kind of diabolical plan it is very possible Amacker has told some other people prior to or certainly not after the fact."

Amacker faces several charges, including attempted murder, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number. Because Amacker is also a convicted felon, federal charges are forthcoming.

"We saw them bring out the suspect, and also the man that was shot, and they both seemed to be OK," neighbor Kenneth Wilson told WALA. "They weren’t saying much; in fact, the suspect did not say a word. It looked like he was way out of it."

"My wife and I have lived here for 13 years," he added. "Never ever seen anything go on like this."
