Yes! "Man Of Steel" starring Henry Cavil as Clark Kent a.k.a Superman definitely lived up to the hype. David S. Goyer and Chris Nolan of "The Dark Knight" trilogy wrote this slightly darker version of the classic superhero.
Henry Cavil, better known for his role as Charles Brandon on "The Tudors," which also starred 'Game of Thrones" actress Natalie Dormer, plays an unsure Clark Kent hiding his identity and abilities from the rest of the world.
"Man of Steel" opens up on Superman's home planet of Krypton where his birth father, Jor-El played by Russell Crowe is trying to convince the planet's elders that the world is doomed. General Zod, also believing that Krypton will soon implode stages a coup trying to get his hands on a codex which holds the future of Krypton.
Zod's plan does not work and he is sentenced to a black hole along with his soldier's for their actions. Eventually Zod will escape and come after a yet to be established Superman.
True to the story of Superman, Jor-El sends his son Kal to Earth before Krypton explodes in an attempt to give the child and his people a future.
In the film "Man of Steel" a young Clark Kent is unsure of his abilities and uses them to save lives in various situations. The result often being that the people he tried to help react with fear or awe, believing he is a gift from God.
Clark Kent leaves his home on the Kansas farm in order to try and figure out where he comes from taking odd job after odd job each time presented with situations in which he has to decide whether or not to use his abilities in public.
A similar situation is how Clark Kent meets up with future love interest Lois Lane played by Amy Adams. The movie takes off from there with non stop action, fight sequences and the underlined theme asking, does the life of one matter more then the lives of all.
Henry Cavil makes a great Superman. His character is sensitive and family orientated and has that tough mysterious exterior that would make women swoon. Having buffed up big time for the role Cavil looks good both with and without his Superman suit.
Cavil remakes the image of Superman, who can sometimes be thought of as goodie-2-shoes. Cavil opens Superman up and shows why he is often a vulnerable character. He explains how difficult it is for a kid who perceived as different, and in his case who is different to grow up under the perception of normal.
Leading lady Amy Adams was a pleasant surprise as Lois Lane. She and Kent form a fast bond and in typical superhero heroine fashion she helps Superman save the people of metropolis after needing some rescuing over her own.
As far as dialogue goes don't look for any quick one-liners. You'll laugh at a few moments but mostly "Man of Steel" is an action packed summer blockbuster. Most of the major fight scenes in the film are made up of building collapses and Superman busting through walls and windows.
The over abundance of fight scenes and punch throwing my have been tossed in because in the 2006 Superman movie starring Brandon Routh did not see the super strength having alien throw a single punch, but that is just an opinion.
"Man of Steel" grossed over $56 million on its first Friday open. Fans came out in droves to see the Superman franchise reboot. The way Christian Bale owned Batman, Henry Cavil owns Superman. Now if only the writers and actors could agree on a Justice League movie, wouldn't that be something to see?
