A woman’s daily routine of leaving her home for work turned tragic when she became the victim of her neighbor’s wrath. 32-year-old Aline dos Santos Viana was stalked and attacked by 36-year-old Washington Andrade de Jesus. The woman’s husband eventually found her body in the staircase of the apartment building where the victim and the attacker both lived. As police tried to arrest the attacker, he set his home on fire and jumped to his death.

Surveillance footage of the building recorded part of the harrowing attack. The video showed that on Friday, April 9 morning the attacker and his victim were together in the parking area of the building in Sao Vicente, Brazil. Around 6:10 a.m. the woman was about to leave on her motorbike when she was punched by her neighbor who was a security guard by profession. In the video, the woman can be seen falling to the ground and lying there motionless.

Having knocked the victim out, the attacker dragged her away towards the stairs, The Sun reported.

When the woman’s husband woke up, he saw messages from her employer informing him that she had not shown up for work. He went to the parking area and found her motorbike with the keys in the ignition. He asked the building’s superintendent to look into the surveillance footage. Having seen the video of his wife getting attacked the man went to the stairs and found his partner’s lifeless body.

A trail of bloody footprints led to the apartment of Jesus on the seventh floor. Police were alerted of the incident and officers arrived shortly after. When they tried to get the suspect out of his home, he bolted the door and set his home on fire. Before the police could enter the home, the man jumped out the window and passed away shortly after.

The devastated husband said that the attacker had a tiff with his partner and he took it out on Viana, Seven News reported. The deceased woman leaves behind her a seven-month-old and a three-year-old daughter.

Both the man’s sister and girlfriend told the police that he had been struggling with substance abuse, G1 reported. The girlfriend said that he had received his salary shortly before the incident and there was a possibility, he used the money on drugs. The police also found the woman’s purse missing from the scene. It was later found in the man’s home indicating that he could have been trying to rob the woman.

The investigation remains ongoing.
