A man who reportedly raped his mother while under the influence of alcohol has been slapped with life imprisonment in Gondia, Maharashtra, India on Monday, Jan. 31.
With the final hearing held on Jan. 31, Shabbir Ahmed Auti, the Principal District and Sessions Judge, has sentenced the unidentified suspect, who allegedly raped his own mother during a drunken episode, to spend the remainder of his life in prison. He has also been required to pay a fine amounting to US$27 (2,000 Indian Rupees) and a compensation amount of US$2,670 ( 2 lakh Indian Rupees) to the victim, NDTV reported.
Following the assault on the elderly woman in August 2021, an investigation was launched and the accused was taken into custody by officers at the Rawanvadi Police Station in Maharashtra, India. The authorities produced evidence against the accused in court on Jan. 19. The evidence was examined by the court and the accused's statement was recorded on Jan. 24.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a 20-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting his mother on multiple occasions over three months in Aurangabad, India in December 2019, the New Indian Express reported.
The victim reportedly worked in a hospital to support her family and lived with her two daughters and two sons, including the accused. The victim's husband had died seven years before the heinous incident.
The accused, an alcoholic, used to frequently come home drunk and demand money from his mother to sustain his liquor habit. When she would refuse to give him money, he allegedly began to beat her up and thrash her.
According to the complaint registered by the victim, the accused reportedly came home drunk and sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions for three months, proceeding to threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the abuse. The woman, who was tired and helpless because of the recurring sexual harassment, finally approached the Cidco Police Station in December 2019 and lodged a police complaint against her son.
Following this, the authorities arrested the suspect and produced him in a local court, which remanded him in police custody.
In another incident, a 42-year-old man allegedly raped his 15-year-old minor daughter as punishment after seeing her spend too much time on her mobile phone in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India, Latin Times reported.
On Saturday, Jan. 22, the underage girl refused to leave her school even after all her classes ended. When she was questioned by one of her teachers, the girl informed her that she did not want to go back home as her father has been sexually assaulting her.
Following this, the teacher called her father to the school for an intervention. The accused reportedly subsequently confessed to his heinous crimes and apologized. The teacher assisted the minor girl in filing a police complaint against her father on Saturday evening, Jan. 22.
After the incident was brought to the police's attention, the father was arrested and sent to judicial remand on Sunday, Jan. 23.
