It has been a pretty tough year for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Going by everything that’s happened so far in the past year of their marriage, one thing is certain: Meghan deserved a much-needed break from all the ruthless media scrutiny and cyberbullying.

While the Duchess of Sussex has maintained a graceful demeanor in the face of harsh (and often needless) criticism, it turns out folks are finally acknowledging the unfair treatment that has been meted out to the Duchess. The realization came in the form of an award bestowed upon Meghan—as “The Most Unfairly Treated Person of 2019”.

The survey, conducted by PlayOJO witnessed the participation of 2,000 people, with 50% of partakers voting for Meghan as the most targeted celebrity of the year in the UK. The results of the poll were introduced this week. "We’re keen to re-address the 2019 balance and not only acknowledge Meghan Markle’s tumultuous year, but offer her some respite," said a spokesperson for PlayOJO.

While several believe that Meghan had signed up for a life of intense media scrutiny; that is absolutely no reason for Meghan to be targeted unnecessarily. Ever since her relationship with Prince Harry was made official; the former “Suits” actress has been subjected to needless trolling and vicious criticism— from her body type and race to body and parenting. Prince Harry had addressed this, while implicitly referencing his zero tolerance towards this.

“I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces,” said Prince Harry, earlier this while, as the couple sought legal action against British tabloids that spread malicious and fabricated news about her. “There comes a point when the only thing to do is to stand up to this behavior because it destroys people and destroys lives. Put simply, it is bullying, which scares and silences people. We all know this isn’t acceptable, at any level. We won’t and can’t live in a world where there is no accountability for this,” he added.

The title of being the most unfairly treated person in the UK isn’t in anyway an honour, it should probably serve as a wake-up call to haters to leave Meghan alone. Some of the other celebrities who came next in line after the Duchess were Ant McPartlin, The Queen, Greta Thunberg and Alex Hollywood.
