A Texas mother and daughter were injured after a policewoman who was driving under the influence crashed into their vehicle. The victims want the person responsible to be held accountable.

On June 5, Dana Schaub and her 26-year old daughter Sarah were on their way to pick up a late-night pizza when a Ford F-150 crashed into their vehicle.

"We are both in a lot of pain, both having to go to the ER twice for this, and we are under a doctor’s care right now," Schaub told the NBC-affiliated KPRC-TV

The driver of the pickup has been identified as 50-year-old Tangie Beaton of League City. Beaton was an off-duty police sergeant with the Lakeview Police Department.

"To think that someone who took an oath to protect us from people like that could actually do that, it was just hard to accept," said Schaub.

According to the court records, Beaton was swerving her pickup in and out of lanes before swerving into a center turning lane where she had a head-on collision with Schaub's Nissan on the 3600 block of NASA Parkway.

Seabrook police officers responded to the crash site and tried to question Beaton about where she was coming from and how drunk she was, but she replied, "I don’t remember," to each question, authorities cited in court records.

The Seabrook Police Department officials cited in records that Beaton had dilated pupils, and slow, slurred speech. The documents said that she also smelled of alcohol.

"It should be noted, the Defendant was chewing mint gum on the scene and later admitted to being the sole occupant of the 2013 Ford F-150 at the time of the incident," the documents added.

According to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Personal Status Report document on Beaton, she has a total of 18 years of service in Texas law enforcement.

Between 2003 and 2006, she worked with the University of Houston Clear Lake, Webster, and Clear Lake Shores police departments.

She has been working with the Lakeview Police Department since November 2006.

The Lakeview Police Department conducted an internal investigation after the crash and terminated Beaton on June 28. She is charged with DWI.

Schaub’s attorney Barney Dill said that not only was his client and her daughter injured, but Schaub also lost her only source of income.

Schaub made a living using her SUV to deliver food and can longer continue doing it as the vehicle was totaled in the crash. She is a DoorDash driver and delivers groceries with Shipt in Texas.

"We are preparing this case for litigation, and obviously, we are investigating and we are in the process of obtaining information and investigating the claim further as we prepare to file suit," said Dill.

Schaub’s friend, Chelsea Payne has set up a GoFundMe to help her with medical expenses.
