Aric Almirola clinched his second pole of the career pole when he posted the fastest lap during Friday's first practice session. Saturday's qualifying session was canceled due to a rainout.

"We went into practice with a plan," Almirola said. "Me and Marcos got a big run on the pack and put up a good lap. We knew that there was a small chance for rain. Obviously, under the circumstances, we thought it would good to put up a good lap, just in case it did rain. We had a plan and stuck to it, and it worked out."

Not only will Almirola start from pole, but the 29-year-old driver will also pit his car in garage #1, the closest box to the exit of pit road. "When they have those yellow-flag pit stops, being in stall No. 1, when they drop the jack, you just have to go a couple of feet to cross that scoring line for the exit of pit road," Almirola said. "That's going to be really important.

Almirola recorded a top speed of 202.000 for pole. Jeff Burton is placed second on the grid with a top speed of 201.987. Marcos Ambrose reached 201.876 mph for third on the grid.

Martin Truex Jr. and Carl Edwards round out the top 5. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is eighth on the grid at Talladega while series leader Matt Kenseth starts at 12th, just behind five-time series champion Jimmie Johnson.
