Derrick Rose spent eight years in the Windy City with the Chicago Bulls, and although he won an MVP and won a lot of memorable games, he has one big regret. That regret is the fact that he was never able to win an NBA Championship for the Bulls.
“Not winning a championship is really the only thing that stands out. Being traded. I never thought I’d be traded. I was very surprised even with everything that happened. [Agent B.J. Armstrong] called, and he told me it’s a chance. I was emotional. I didn’t tell my mom. It was sad because I also thought about my son. How would I see him? I thought about him, the fans, the city, the Bulls. I had so many visions of winning a championship there,” Rose said.
Rose has never missed the playoffs in his NBA career since winning Rookie of the Year honors back in 2008. He helped lead the Bulls to the best record in the Eastern Conference back to back seasons in 2010 and 2011, including once making it to the conference finals. Rose’s Bulls faced a LeBron James led team four times in the playoffs, but unfortunately lost all four series.
This season isn’t showing much promise. Rose was traded to the Knicks in the offseason reuniting him with former Bulls forward Joakim Noah. The Knicks are off to a 1-3 start while the Bulls are 3-1. On Friday night the Bulls and Knicks will play each other in Chicago in Rose’s first game back.
Rose is averaging 16.3 points per game this season, but his assists are at a career low 2.5. It’s still very early, and a lot of adjustments have to be made, but clearly the Knicks are not a playoff caliber team right now. This is the final season if Rose’s contact.
