Given that “Cobra Kai” has been wowing audiences with its latest season, a revelation may give “Karate Kid” fans a treat in 2024.

According to Cinemablend, Sony Pictures is reportedly planning a new Karate Kid movie and it is slated to arrive on June 7, 2024. This was after some scheduling updates were released by the company.

Unfortunately, there were no other details given on what the next “Karate Kid” movie will be about. Most will recall the remake of the franchise that starred Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith in 2010. The last from the original franchise came in 1994 with “The Next Karate Kid.”

But it seems very clear in the report that the upcoming installment will not be a remake and be a continuation of the original franchise. However, it remains unclear what angle producers will be taking on.

However, the fact that the “Cobra Kai” series has been revealing a lot of new plots and twists, it is possible that showrunners may pick up from that. So far, this remains up in the air.

There is a lot to digest in the “Cobra Kai” series, digging deep into the history of each character. It could be a continuation of the new breed of karatekas born from the hit Netflix series.

That list includes Miguel Diaz (Xolo Mariduena), Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan), Samantha LaRusso (Mary Mouser) or even Tory Nichols (Peyton List).

Ralph Macchio and William Zabka are still around, so it could be a story that would tackle the story of the two main characters from the original story of “The Karate Kid.”

There is also the case of other notable characters such as John Kreese (Martin Kove), Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) and Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto).

Anything is possible and Sony Pictures has a lot of material to work with. More updates on these plans should come out moving forward.
