One of the most beloved players in Major League Baseball, New York Yankees captain and shortstop Derek Jeter continues to produce for the 27-time World Series champions. Despite appearing in just 17 games last season due to injury, the 19-year veteran recovered in time for the start of the 2014 campaign, which now stands as the final professional season for the five-time World Series champion. The 40-year-old superstar announced that the 2014 MLB season would be his last earlier this year and now that the entire baseball world knows they'll only have the chance to see the 'The Captain' a handful of times, each team around the league and fans everywhere continue to plan their own special tributes to one of the finest players, leaders and gentlemen the game of baseball has ever seen.

Excited about the opportunity to participate in his final home opener at Yankee Stadium, Jeter said recently that he's going to enjoy his final season in Pinstripes, especially since he's going to do everything in his power to guide the Bronx Bombers to the franchises 28th World Series championship. Punching out 4 hits in his first 16 at bats this season, Jeter appears to be healthy and ready for another long season, and playing in front of the home fans once again will certainly be a treat like it always is for the Kalamazoo, Michigan native.

“I will enjoy it,” he said of the home opener and 2014 season in general. “Every city I go to, every game I play, I will enjoy it. So, what they think, how they think I feel, they're wrong on that one. But, at the same time, I get that I have to play a game. I have to play a season. I think 'not enjoying it' is the wrong way to put it. Balancing it, I think, is a better way. Everyone has emotions. Everyone has feelings. Especially here. We've played in so many big games, so many special games throughout the course of my career. I'll be nervous. I'll have butterflies before this game starts. I do that all the time. I'm just pretty god at trying to control my emotions. Not get too high, not get too low.”

Jeter's first taste of the home crowd in his final campaign will come on Monday, April 7 against American League East rival Baltimore. Television coverage will be offered through the YES Network across the New York area and MASN Network in the Baltimore area. The MLB Network will also anchor coverage of the game, with first pitch coming at 1:05pm, ET. Those hoping to watch the game on-line may do so by visiting the MLB.TV website.
