The NFL is bringing Latin music star power to the global stage, announcing that Colombian singer Karol G will headline the halftime show at its upcoming American football game in São Paulo, Brazil, on September 5. The highly anticipated matchup, featuring the reigning AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs against the Los Angeles Chargers, will be held at Corinthians Arena and streamed live worldwide on YouTube, a first for the league's game day entertainment.
The performance is part of the NFL's initiative "Celebrating the Sounds of Latin America through Game Day Entertainment," a program designed to integrate the music, culture, and energy of the region into one of America's most celebrated sports traditions. Known to fans as La Bichota, Karol G has become one of the most influential Latin artists of her generation, topping global charts and selling out stadium tours with her blend of reggaeton, Latin pop, and urban rhythms.
By bringing an NFL regular-season game to Brazil, the league is signaling its growing commitment to expanding the sport's footprint beyond North America. In recent years, the NFL has staged games in London, Frankfurt, and Mexico City, attracting new fans and introducing American football to diverse markets. Brazil, with its deep sports culture and massive online fan base, represents a key opportunity for the NFL's global strategy.
The São Paulo game marks the league's first in South America, a move that underscores the NFL's ambition to create an international calendar that mirrors the global reach of sports like soccer and basketball. By pairing elite athletic competition with top-tier musical performances, the league hopes to build a festival-like atmosphere that appeals not only to dedicated football fans but also to music lovers and pop culture audiences worldwide.
For Karol G, the halftime stage offers another historic milestone in a career defined by breaking barriers for Latin music on the global stage. Her performance in front of tens of thousands at Corinthians Arena, and millions more watching live online, will highlight the merging of sports and entertainment in a way that reflects the NFL's evolving identity, one that speaks as much to São Paulo, Bogotá, and Madrid as it does to Kansas City or Los Angeles.
"I'm so excited to be part of the first-ever NFL livestream on YouTube. It's truly an honor and a proud moment," the Colombian artist, who is touring with her Billboard No. 1 album, Tropicoqueta, said in a press release. "I've seen many NFL halftime shows over the years, and now having the opportunity to bring my music to this global stage means so much to me. I can't wait to celebrate with everyone in São Paulo and with fans around the world."
This is the second National Football League game in Brazil. The first halftime show last year was hosted by Anitta, Brazil's biggest global star.
This is also Karol G's second show in Brazil .
In September 2024, the Colombian singer-songwriter performed at the iconic Rock in Rio festival, where she wowed an audience of more than 30,000 people on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro. Her popularity in Brazil is particularly notable given the limited number of Spanish-speaking artists who have managed to break into that market.
The Tropicoqueta in the NFL
Karol G's performance at the American football game in Brazil is expected to be a preview of the Colombian artist's highly anticipated Tropicoqueta tour, part of a live celebration of her latest album.
Last July, the artist announced that she would announce the dates of her new international tour in the coming days.
