Actress Dascha Polanco hit the orange carpet for the “Orange is the New Black” season 4 premiere looking stunning in red dress and a low, sleek pony with an added bonus – gold leaf detailing.

Celebrity Stylist Cynthia Alvarez partnered with Dove Hair to style Polanco, also known as Dayanara Diaz on the hit series.

For the premiere, Alvarez decided to complement Dascha’s dress by keeping her hair off her face with the sophisticated hairdo.

Below you will find the hair how-to from Alvarez herself, using the Dove Regenerative Nourishment Serum-In-Oil and Dove Style+Care Flexible Hold Hairspray.

  • To obtain this look, I started by applying the Dove Regenerative Nourishment Serum-In-Oil to her damp hair from roots to ends. This helps to control frizz while adding in shine.
  • Next, I blow dried her hair in small sections, making sure to point the nozzle downward to flatten her roots. Once her hair was completely dry, I used a flat iron on the ends.
  • I aligned her deep side part with the arch of her brow (this placement is the most flattering) and gathered her hair into a low ponytail. Once secured with a ponytail holder, I took a small piece of loose hair and wrapped it around the base to conceal the ponytail holder and pinned it into place.
  • Now this is where it gets fun! To prepare her hair for the gold foil, I applied a thin layer of gel to her part and the base of the ponytail. Using the open end of a bobby pin, I broke off small pieces of the foil and placed them directly onto the gel. It can get tricky as the gold can be delicate and sticks to everything so I made sure my placement was deliberate. I repeated the same steps for the base of the ponytail. To set the gold foil in place, I finished the look off with the Dove Style + Care Flexible Hold Hairspray.
