A 25-year-old police constable was mysteriously found dead in the barrack of a police station in the Indian state of Bihar on Saturday, Feb. 19.

Sangeeta Kumari was found hanging from the noose in her room in the barrack of Chainpur police station in the Kaimur district on Saturday evening, according to reports.

She reportedly had headsets plugged in her ears, which investigators say indicated the woman was talking to someone before she allegedly killed herself.

No suicide note has been recovered from her room, which she shared with two other women constables.

According to police sources, one of her roommates was off-duty while the other one was on duty on Saturday evening. “Sangeeta was alone in her room when she took the extreme step,” the officials added.

The authorities are yet to confirm the exact cause of death as autopsy results were being awaited.

“Sangeeta’s family members have been informed and her body was sent to Bhabhua Sadar Hospital for the postmortem. Her mobile phone has been seized for further investigation,” Kaimur Superintendent of Police, Rakesh Kumar said.

The reason the constable’s alleged suicide continues to remain a mystery as the probe continues.

A similar incident was reported from the Indian city of Hyderabad, where a 30-year-old police constable allegedly killed himself at his home during the wee hours of Sunday, Feb. 20.

Tejavath Raju, a 2020 batch police constable deputed to the Maheswaram police station of Rachakonda commissionerate, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his bedroom at his home in Nacharam on Sunday morning.

According to the police, Raju was in a relationship with one of his distant relatives however, due to differences, they got engaged to other persons.

But their partners called off the wedding after they got to know about the relationship between Raju and the woman.

A few months later, Raju and the woman reconciled their relationship and decided to get married. However, the woman was insisting him to shift to another house after their marriage, they can stay together.

Raju who lived with his elderly parents was against this idea of leaving them and moving to another house.

According to reports, the unidentified woman had threatened to not marry him if he did not comply with her demand.

Raju was reportedly upset after he failed to convince the woman, leading him to fall into depression and eventually succumb to a death by suicide, said police.

Based on a complaint from Raju’s parents, the police registered a case under section 174 CrPC. This is an ongoing investigation.
