Pope Francis will have a busy itinerary during his historic trip in North America. The Holy Father will visit the United Nations, hold mass outside the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, and address Congress. Here's a look at the schedule for Pope Francis' visit in the U.S.

Wednesday, Sept. 23 (Washington, DC.)

9:15 a.m.: Pope Francis appear at an official welcoming ceremony on the White House South Lawn then meet with President Obama.

11 a.m.: The pontiff will ride in his specially equipped “popemobile” around the Ellipse south of the White House along the National Mall.

11:30 a.m.: Prayer meeting with U.S. bishops at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in downtown Washington.

4:30 p.m.: His Holiness will canonize Junípero Serra during a mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

Thursday, Sept. 24 (Washington, DC, and New York City)

10:00 a.m.: Address to the U.S. Congress. Francis becomes the first pope to address a joint meeting of the House and Senate.

11:15 a.m.: The Pope will visit St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in D.C. and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington, where he is expected to meet with clients of the St. Maria’s Meals program who will have gathered for lunch, including some who are homeless or live in shelters

4:00 p.m.: Pope Francis heads to New York where he’ll land by 5 p.m.

6:45 p.m.: The Pope will conduct evening prayer at St. Patrick’s Cathedral near New York’s Rockefeller Center.

Friday, Sep. 25 (New York City)

8:30 a.m.: Visit to the United Nations and Address to the United Nations General Assembly

11:30 a.m.: Multi-religious service at 9/11 Memorial and Museum, World Trade Center

4:00 p.m.: Visit to Our Lady Queen of Angels School, East Harlem

5:00 p.m.: Procession through Central Park (time approximate)

6:00 p.m.: Mass at Madison Square Garden

Saturday, Sep. 26 (New York City and Philadelphia)

8:40 a.m.: Departure from John F. Kennedy International Airport

9:30 a.m.: Arrival at Atlantic Aviation, Philadelphia

10:30 a.m.: Mass at Cathedral Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia

4:45 p.m.: Visit to Independence Mall

7:30 p.m.: Visit to families event. The pope stops at the Festival of Families on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, part of the World Meeting of Families.

Sunday, Sep. 27 (Philadelphia)

9:15 a.m.: Meeting with bishops at St. Martin's Chapel, St. Charles Borromeo Seminary

11:00 a.m.: Visit to Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility

4:00 p.m.: Mass at families event. The pope celebrates mass to conclude the World Meeting of Families. Organizers expect that as many as 1 million people may take part.

7:00 p.m. : Visit with organizers, volunteers and benefactors of the World Meeting of Families, Atlantic Aviation

8:00 p.m.: Departure for Rome
