Prince Harry used to describe Kate Middleton as the big sister he never had. Unfortunately, times have changed, and today, the Duke of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge are reportedly no longer as close as they used to.

A royal expert recently gave his insight into what transpired between Prince Harry and Kate. According to Richard Fitzwilliams, it all started when Prince Harry married Meghan Markle and Prince Harry started a “showdown” with the Cambridges. Prince Harry reportedly didn’t like it when Prince William and Kate advised him against marrying Meghan and asked him to give himself more time to get to know her before committing to marriage.

Today, however, the “Fab Four” is reportedly more of a distant concept, and Prince Harry and Kate Middleton are far from being the close allies that they used to be. “The endless rumors involving the Cambridges and the Sussexes continue unabated, especially after Meghan’s guest editorship of Vogue and what was taken as implied criticism,” said Fitzwilliams.

“It seems strange that we all bought into what involved a newly married couple being neighbors with their in-laws, sharing offices and whose charitable work would be linked to the same Foundation. In reality, this was probably never practical,” he added.

According to the royal expert, the relations between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have become so distant in recent months, affecting Prince Harry’s friendship with Kate. He also claimed that some of the public appearances of the Fab Four were stage-managed, aiming to make the public believe all is well among them.

Fitzwilliams noted, however, that while recent events have taken their toll on their once close friendship, both Prince Harry and Kate are still civil with each other and appreciate certain aspects of their relationship. Kate is still reportedly fond of Prince Harry’s mischievous personality, and Prince Harry still loves being an uncle to Kate’s children.

Kate is Prince Harry’s only sister-in-law. Their friendship goes all the way back to 2003, when Prince William and Kate started dating. Prince Harry liked Kate for his brother, and they instantly clicked. In fact, in an old interview with Newsweek, he referred to Kate as his big sister, suggesting how strong their friendship was.
