Prince Harry has spoken about his struggles with mental health issues, even though the British royals are expected to not open up about such things. According to a royal expert, the Duke of Sussex did it to inspire others who are going through the same problems.

In a previous interview, Prince Harry had said that there were many times in his life when he came “very close to total breakdown.” While some may see this as his way of dealing with his problem, ITV N ews Royal Editor Chris Ship explained that there was a different reason why he did it.

Ship told Yahoo UK’s “The Royal Box” that he had spoke to Prince Harry about the interview. He specifically told the royal that he is not supposed to open up this way in an interview. However, the Duke of Sussex replied by saying that he did it because he saw it as his way of “doing duty and service.”

“ My grandmother had a certain way of doing it but my way is to say ‘okay, I sought some help professionally for mental illness’, and if that encourages other people to talk about it or go and seek some help then that’s me imparting my duty and service,” Prince Harry reportedly said.

Ship pointed out that the role of the royals has changed since the time of Prince Harry’s grandmother. That is why they are opening up about these issues. Even Prince William spoke about their mom a few years ago.

Prince Harry has been in the news for using private jets while advocating about environmental issues, which some saw as hypocritical. However, Ship told Yahoo that people don’t understand the pressures royals have to face when they are in public. He also pointed out that secure means of transport is also important because the Duke of Sussex wouldn’t want to see a picture of his son Archie on the front page of a tabloid.
