Prince Philip previously told one of his closest aides, "we were wrong about her all along," while referring to Meghan Markle when he learned about her and Prince Harry's joint announcement about leaving the Royal Family.
Prince Philip was reportedly "spitting blood" after learning of the desire of Harry and Meghan to withdraw from their duties in the Royal Family. According to Christopher Andersen, author of "Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan," the late Duke of Edinburgh went directly to Queen Elizabeth to express his "anger." The Duke was said to have been furious that the pair publicly announced it without informing senior royals first.
In the book, the aide revealed that Prince Philip had no knowledge of the social media app Instagram but was "furious, deeply hurt, spitting blood" about the announcement. He shouted, "this shows a complete lack of respect," as he expressed his anger to the Queen.
The book also claimed that both Prince Philip and his son Prince Charles had a warm relationship with Meghan; however, their view eventually changed due to the sudden news.
In Andersen's book, it is said that the senior royals now see Meghan as a twenty-first-century Wallis Simpson – the American socialite who married the Duke of Windsor, former King Edward VIII after he abdicated in order to be with her more than 80 years ago. As also revealed in the book, according to Charles' staff, the Prince of Wales' reaction to the statement was "frightening." He allegedly had a phone conversation with Harry and told him to "try and fix this."
Meanwhile, in the latest news about Harry, the Home Office has agreed on the "vast majority" of what needed to be redacted from witness evidence. Harry applied for a judicial review when he was not allowed to pay for his family protection as they wanted to return to the United Kingdom.
During the preliminary hearing in February, the High Court heard representations from both sides to keep some of the court documents private and out of the public eye. A judge has allowed the bid. In the Thursday ruling, Justice Swift explained that editing out information from court documents would "avoid the risk that putting information into the public domain concerning security arrangements made on past occasions, and the general approach to whether and if so what arrangements should be made, may impair the effectiveness of arrangements in place now, or which may be put in place in the future."
However, as soon as he had delivered the decision, the judge criticized Harry’s legal team for breaking the embargo on his ruling. "It seems to me there was a breach of the embargo, the draft judgment should not have been provided to Mr Robinson," said the judge. The court heard the judgment, shared under embargo with the legal team before it is formally handed down, had been forwarded on to former British Army Major General Tim Robinson. The court heard Robinson is "not qualified as a matter of law to provide legal services."
