The members of the royal family thought Princess Diana was mad after she asked them a surprising question. Since then, the Princess of Wales and the royal family became distant from one another.

In the book “Diana: Her True Story,” royal author Andrew Morton said that the mom of two asked whether the royal family would still be relevant in a federal Europe. Unfortunately, Prince Charles’ ex-wife never got an answer from her husband’s relatives.

Instead, they just looked at her with a surprised look on their faces and then they continued talking about the last pheasant day shoot. The royal family’s discussion about the event lasted the entire evening, and it made Princess Diana feel left out.

“As a friend says: ‘She finds the monarchy claustrophobic and completely outdated with no relevance to today’s life and problems. She feels that it is a crumbling institution and believes that the family won’t know what has hit us in a few years’ time unless it changes too,’” Morton said.

But this wasn’t the only time that Princess Diana felt left out from the royal family. Every time that the late royal would break protocol, she would grow even more distant from her husband’s family. She also felt left out after she refused to attend the royal family’s picnics and barbecues, which still pushed through without her.

In the book “The Duchess: The Untold Story,” royal biographer Penny Junor also said that Princess Diana didn’t like hanging out with the royal family in Balmoral. But during an interview, she pretended to love Queen Elizabeth II’s favorite vacation spot.

“She hated the countryside, hated his family’s passion for horses and dogs, hated the rain that poured down remorselessly; and she felt that her husband was avoiding intimate contact,” Junor said. “She was raging and getting no meaningful reassurance from Charles,” she added.

And instead of dealing with the Princess of Wales, Prince Charles ended up leaving his ex-wife under the care of his former secretary, Michael Colborne. But the latter didn’t also know how to deal with Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom.
