Princess Diana's brother was a no-show at Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s christening photo. It has been revealed that Charles Spencer skipped the baptism due to a scheduled engagement.

But according to a royal expert, there may be another reason why the Princess of Wales’ younger brother was snubbed from the private event. After all, Princess Diana’s sisters, Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, were there.

While speaking with Express, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said that the snub may have had something to do with Charles Spencer’s deeply impertinent speech at Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997. At that time, Diana’s brother said that his sister didn’t need a royal title to continue to generate her particular brand of magic.

He also said that he and his relatives would do everything that they can to continue the imaginative and loving way she has been raising her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. The speech reportedly didn’t sit well with Prince Charles and his family.

“We don’t know if Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, attended Archie’s christening, though it is probable,” Fitzwilliams said. “Harry and Meghan’s charming tribute to Diana was to include her sisters, Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, in the christening photo. William and Kate ensured that there were links with Diana at all their children’s christening too. Even if it suited the moment, Charles’ speech at Diana’s funeral was both unforgettable oratory and deeply impertinent,” he said.

Fitzwilliams added that the royal family will most likely remember what Princess Diana’s brother said at the funeral vividly. And to include him in the only christening photo that was released on July 6 could have been highly controversial.

The royal expert also said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might have been forced to snub Charles Spencer from their son’s christening photo to not make it seem as though they were supporting his words at the funeral. And as such, it was best to not include him.

But the so-called snub doesn’t mean that he is at odds with his nephews and their families. Charles Spencer was invited to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, and he attended the event.
