At E3 when Sony announced that the PS4 would be priced at $399 the crowd applauded in delight and Sony (and everyone for that matter) knew they had an advantage over Microsoft's Xbox One console. But now reports are coming out that the Sony's advantage has come with a price.
According to multiple sources, in the months leading up to E3, Sony nixed plans to include the camera add-on with every system and shave $100 off its originally planned price of $499. Most importantly, it did so quietly, informing its retail partners only of the removal of the camera, not specifying the lower price so as not to tip its hand to Microsoft.

PlayStation Eye cameras will be sold separately for $60.
By comparison, every $500 Xbox One unit will include a Kinect 2.0 camera. Microsoft has touted the new Kinect as an integral component of the Xbox One, unlike the Xbox 360 scenario, where the Kinect is an optional accessory.

Sony has yet to release a statement about the camera removal. Sony's abandonment of the Eye in favor of a lower priced PlayStation 4 seems to be paying off. The company claims to be boosting internal sales estimates and online retailers are reporting record breaking pre-sales.
As of now the removal of the camera has been good but will it come back to bite Sony in the butt?
