Queen Elizabeth II has her favorites, and this is said to be an open secret in the royal household. More often than not, the obvious display of favoritism is said to trigger bouts of envy among other employees.

Royal commentator Angela Mollard recently claimed that the Queen is so fond of her dressmaker, Angela Kelly, that she considers the latter as “almost her sister.” Her evident affection toward her in-house designer allegedly makes several other staffers jealous.

“This is a very special friendship between this 66-year-old dresser and the 93-year-old monarch. To such an extent that people say she’s almost like another sister to the Queen, after she lost her real sister Margaret,” said Mollard in the podcast “ROYALS.”

Kelly is said to be aware of the growing insecurity and envy among other royal staffers but has always maintained a dignified stance. She reportedly made a joke once and said that she “has no rooms for anymore knives in my back.”

Turns out, this special rapport has eventually led to Kelly being bestowed with a special honor: to write a book about their friendship, as very little is known about it. “Angela Kelly is the first serving member of the Royal Household to have been given this extraordinary permission,” said a spokeswoman for HarperCollins.

As per popular reports, the book will feature never-before-seen photographs, a volley from Kelly’s own private collection peppered with intimate secrets from her professional life. This revealing book also offers a deeper insight into what it’s like to work closely with the Queen, to curate her wardrobe and to have built a true and lasting connection with her.

Kelly has barely given interviews in the past and avoids doing them even now. However, during a candid chat, she was once quoted as saying that the Queen and she are “two typical women who discuss clothes, make-up and jewellery.”

Members of the royal family have often spotted Her Majesty and Kelly having a great time. Mollard maintained that it was usual to see the two “in a sitting room, indulging in long and hearty conversations over cups of Darjeeling tea.”

While Kelly’s primary duties are to serve and support the Queen, it is said that the two share a lot more. And this has reportedly blossomed into an “unparalleled bond” between the two.
