A convicted rapist out on bail has been arrested Monday, June 14, in Rajasthan, India after brutally stabbing to death the widowed woman that accused him of rape in 2020, local authorities confirmed.

The killing reportedly happened inside the victim’s house in Nagani village in Sirohi district, Rajasthan, India, after the suspect broke into her home disguised as a woman and proceeded to heinously knife her dead.

The accused has been identified as a Netram, a man in his early 20s, who had reportedly threatened the woman to withdraw the rape complaint against him, menacingly informing the victim that he was out on bail.

After the woman refused to answer his repeated calls and harassment, the assailant barged into her home unannounced, while dressed as a woman, on Saturday night, June 12, and stabbed her to death while she was sleeping, The Indian Express reported.

“A rape case was registered against the accused in Sirohi district in November last year. The accused was arrested and was in judicial custody for six months. After he was granted bail, he went to the house of the victim on June 12 and attacked her,” said Ravi Prakash Meharda, Additional Director General of Police - Crime.

The rapist reportedly also attacked the victim’s younger sister as she tried to interfere in the stabbing and save her sister. After being overpowered by Netram, the sister called out for help as she woke up their neighbors. However, by the time that police arrived, the killer had already managed to flee the crime scene, reported India Today.

“Once inside, he stabbed her. The victim’s younger sister, who was with her at the time of the attack, also sustained injuries while trying to save her. The accused was arrested on Sunday,” said Dharmendra Singh, Sirohi Superintendent of Police.

Netram was reportedly the victim's former neighbor. The victim was a widow and had been working in a local Anganwadi in the village before she was brutally attacked, reported The Times of India.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a 50-year-old man named Murugesan allegedly raped his 17-year-old daughter and murdered his wife in Pudukkottai, Tamilnadu, India in early May earlier this year, sources reported.

Murugesan, who has three wives and 11 children, reportedly sexually assaulted his teen daughter born to his second wife, Bhanumati, starting 2017 and continued with the recurring assault for a span of 2 years. The father threatened her with death if she exposed his illicit crimes.

After two years of abuse, the girl built up the courage to reveal the ordeals to her mother. Bhanumati and Murugesan’s first wife reportedly then confronted him about the incidents. However, an infuriated Murugesan proceeded to murder Bhanumati by dropping a boulder on her head while she was grazing cattle in a nearby forest.

An investigation into Bhanumati’s death proved Murugesan guilty of her murder, as well as the sexual assault of the victim’s daughter. The patriarch was handed the death penalty by an Indian court on May 6.
