When it comes to ambassadors of Puerto Rican pride, there is a definite king: Ricky Martin.
The singer, who declared his own homosexuality in 2010, called out on the Government of Puerto Rico to do justice, and grant rights for the LGBT community.
"The same rights for each and every citizen of Puerto Rico, that's what we are asking for, and that's what we hope to achieve, the country of justice and peace we want. Puerto Rico has to join all the countries of the world that are at the forefront in human rights and equality," he said in a statement.
The singer is particularly asking the government to promote equality and prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation in any workplace, governmental, public or private. He has also honed in the law of domestic violence, so it includes provisions that apply to same-sex couples, and eliminate any provision of gender as a barrier ot adoption.
Throughout his career, Martin has been very involved in Puerto Rico's social and political changes, particularly in what had to do with freedom of speech and the decision to deny adoption rights to gay couples.
