Tonight is the magical event that unofficially kicks off Christmas time for New Yorkers: the Rockefeller tree lighting! Every year, select performers sing their hearts away to welcome the season and countdown to the big moment. NYC.com reports that the massive pine will have over 30,000 light bulbs covering, so it’s pretty safe to say it will look as amazing as it has in the past years. Coverage will begin at 7 p.m. EST on certain channels and at 8 p.m. all across NBC with "Today" anchors Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker and Natalie Morales as hosts.

The networks website, NBC.com is expected to have an online live stream with performances by Sting, James Taylor (with Chris Botti), Mary J. Blige, Andrea Bocelli, The Band Perry, Andy Grammer, Carly Rae Jepsen, Pentatonix, Band of Merrymakers and the Rockettes. The tree is normally lit around half an hour into the event, and performances will start then.

Let's get excited by remembering some of last year's highlights!
