Little is known on the status of “Russian Doll” Season 2 although there are new developments on the status of the Netflix original that debuted two years ago. The pandemic played a role behind its hiatus but it appears the show is now getting some headway.

The latest on “Russian Doll” Season 2 is that there will be a new character joining. She is no other than Schitt’s Creek actress Annie Murphy. She will part of the next run of episodes although it remains unclear what role she will be portraying, Variety reported.

Story details and plots are also unknown for now. However, this should render positive news to followers of “Russian Doll” who have been in waiting on what lies ahead for the show.

Aside from that, updates on the second season of “Russian Doll” have been close to none. The last update on the Netflix original came from co-creator and star Natasha Lyonne who mentioned they were digging deep and find a good twist that would be enjoyable and funny for its followers. She gave that update on Entertainment Tonight.

"I'm very moved that people are interested into the deep end and that was the revelation of Russian Doll connecting, so I guess my intention in our plans are to continue to dig deep in a way that is aesthetically enjoyable and feels funny on your insides," Lyonne said.

Lyonne is part of the creative team behind “Russian Doll” alongside Parks and Rec's Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland. The latter is working on the Star Wars TV show The Acolyte.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, “Russian Doll” was originally scheduled to film again last year. It was not spared from stalled plans. With new updates now out, it may only be a matter of time before the official release date will come out. The official release date of “Russian Doll” Season 2 could come out sometime early next year.
