It is no secret that Salma Hayek’s husband, Francois Pinault, is a very successful businessman, so in an interview with The Telegraph, she explained why she continues to work so hard.

First off, Hayek (who turns 50 this year) explained that working keeps her sane, so she puts pressure on herself to do so and said it is also crucial for her employees’ sake that she is kept busy. The Mexican beauty also said that she keeps her and her husband’s finances separate for the same reason. “I don’t have some sugar daddy financing my career,” she said. “That would be the most humiliating thing.”

When asked discretely why she decided to take on roles in movies that were…well, bad, Hayek nonchalantly agreed and explained that to her, it is more about the experience and learnings she obtains from making them than about the actual box office numbers they get. "Maybe it’s not very professional, but it’s life. It’s Mexican. It’s like Robert Rodriguez; it’s like Matteo Garrone. It’s family,” she insisted.

Whether they are good or bad movies, it does not mean the “Desperado” star had it easy. Hayek recently told Red Magazine that she had to “fight very hard” for everything she has now. “I’m a good strategist. Instead of getting angry, I take the information and find a solution. You have to learn to listen to your instincts. Especially women; we are programmed to diminish our own instincts and vision,” she explained. “You have to be able to block everybody else’s voice so that you can find your own… And then have the stamina and the stomach to go fight for it.”

Aside from having enriching experiences from working, it is also a priority for the actress to be able to spend time with her family during these projects. “Home is where my husband is,” she said. “He is home. Everything outside of the family nucleus is an adventure that you're living together.”
