An old man from Scotland appeared to have the habit of feeding swans and want no other animals around when he does. It appears this is the reason why he ended up hitting a seagull in the head that was witnessed by a couple who happened to be passing by.

The couple witnessed an old man grabbing a seagull being held by its neck and then getting hit with a giant metal object, leaving the rare bird species concussed and traumatized. The seagull eventually died from the incident and such has drawn the ire of the couple.

The man and the woman were on a trip to Lido near Winton Circus, North Ayrshire when they witnessed the horrific scene at around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. Both questioned the man for his actions and the old man just said that he did not want to see any animal trying to steal the food he was feeding on the swans.

The couple tried to save the life of the seagull and rushed it to the nearby animal rescue center. Their efforts failed to save the life of the creature and both are now calling on authorities to look into the animal cruelty issue.

"The disgust that I felt for this man was overpowering. This bird has every right to feed as well so how can he justify his actions? All wildlife deserves a life without cruelty,” the unnamed woman said about the incident. "It is illegal to harm any wildlife and rightly so. Thank goodness for Hessilhead Wildlife Centre where the gull was taken to but sadly died the next day."

Now, both are wondering if this incident had happened before. The old man was described to be in his mid-60s and wearing green wool had and a red anorak jacket.

A representative from the Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue, Andy Christie, said that they rarely get incidents such as this one that befell the swan. However, they hope that this incident raises the awareness of people that harming a bird intentionally is a crime.

Police are looking into the animal cruelty row which happened on May 2, 2021, near an outdoor swimming pool.
