At 5-1 overall and currently pacing the NFC West division, the Seattle Seahawks have started the 2013 NFL season the way many expected, winning games with incredible balance on both sides of the football. Thanks to consistent play from quarterback Russell Wilson (97-158, 1,254 yards, 8 TD), running back Marshawn Lynch (117 car, 487 yds, 5 TD) and a tremendous defense, the Seahawks and head coach Pete Carroll are well on their way to another postseason berth where they hope to build on last season's playoff run.
Coming off a 20-13 victory over the pesky Tennessee Titans in which Seattle was uncharacteristically sloppy on the offensive side of the ball, head coach Pete Carroll knows his team will need to be better in order to take down division rival Arizona in their next contest, especially since the Cardinals have shown the ability to be competitive against the NFL's best, as evidenced in last week's close loss to San Francisco. Carroll is also well aware that his team will need to be on point heading into the Week 7 showdown considering the Seahawks haven't played their best football in recent meetings against their division rivals.
"It's nice to learn while you are winning and I think that's where we are," Carroll said. "That's what we're hoping to continue. Arizona is a brand new team to us. There are things that look similar, but it's not the same. All kinds of stuff has changed, so we have to look at them all over again. It's not like we're just carrying it over, same ol' same ol'. It's not like that."
While Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch has been successful this season - nearly rushing for 500 yards and 5 scores - the Cardinals defense is currently fifth in the league in opponent rushing yards per game, allowing just over 90 per contest. Coming off a very competitive 32-20 loss to San Francisco, Arizona will look for a major victory that will certainly keep them in the division race with both Seattle and San Fran. Closing out the upcoming game will be a major part of that, according to linebacker Daryl Washington.
"Once you get your back to the wall, you have to toughen it out," Washington said after the loss to San Fran in which the 49ers scored the only 10 points of the final quarter. "I thought we lost our energy that fourth quarter to end the game. We didn't play like we did the first three quarters and the game got away from us."
