Singer-actress Selena Gomez's fans will be happy as she recently teased her new music.

In an interview with Vanity Fair for the magazine's annual Hollywood issue, she said that she's been working on music that tackles "real things that I'm walking through."

She shared that her new music is "really powerful, strong, very pop." The theme of her new work "generally is freedom -- freedom from relationships, freedom from the darkness."

She also admitted she'd prefer to work on slower and denser songs, but she's prioritizing her fans' happiness.

She said that if she had her way, she would "probably write ballads my whole life, but I want to produce music that will make people smile."

She is also filming the new season of "Only Murders in the Building," which also stars Steve Martin and Martin Short.

Gomez said that she really loves them and that she doesn't like calling them "my grandpas, but they kind of are. They'll tell me the same jokes and I laugh every time."

She previously said that she was leaning towards retiring from music as she didn't feel being taken seriously, reported Insider.

Later in an interview with USA Today, she claimed that she "said it wrong."

She clarified that the idea of retirement for her isn't that she would leave forever, it is that she does see herself "taking a significant break from music."

Gomez thinks she will be "creating and doing music and hopefully maybe even do some side projects with people." She just wants to maybe "take a step back, but I'm not doing that anytime soon."

The 30-year-old's last release was "Revelación" in 2021 which had six songs recorded predominantly in Spanish.

She hasn't released a full-length project since "Rare" (2020), which featured the heartfelt breakup ballad "Lose You to Love Me."

In her documentary "My Mind & Me," she said that it was "the fastest song" she had ever written.

She shared that she and her team wrote the song in 45 minutes and that it's about "more than just a lost love. It's me learning to choose myself, to choose life, but also hoping that people can find grace and peace in that, too."
