“Señorita” is a very lucky song for both Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello. Not only did the song become a hit virtually overnight, it even ignited their romance as well as earned them a Grammy nomination.

Mendes and Cabello’s “Señorita” has been nominated for Grammy’s Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category, ET Online reported. Camila also announced the nomination on social media while also congratulating their fellow nominees.

"Nominated for a Grammy with my favorite person !!!!!!!! @shawnmendes EEEEEEEPPP!!!!!! congrats to all our friends who got nominated too ___,” Cabello caption a sensual photo of her and Mendes that she posted on her Instagram account.

However, Mendes and Cabello will have some serious competition in the category that “Señorita” was nominated for. They will be up against Jonas Brothers’ “Sucker,” Ariana Grande and Social House’s “Boyfriend,” Post Malone and Swae Lee's “Sunflower,” and Lil Nas X's “Old Town Road”, which featured Billy Ray Cyrus.

Aside from Mendes and Cabello, Clean Bandit’s Jack Patterson, Carli XCX and Ali Tomposi also co-wrote “Señorita.” It was produced by Cashmere Cat, Andrew Watt, and Benny Blanco.

“Señorita’s” Grammy nomination would be the third for both Mendes and Cabello. Camila was previously nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album for “Camila” and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Havana (Live)” while Shawn was previously nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album for his self-titled LP and for Song of the Year for “In My Blood.”

Aside from earning them a Grammy nod, “Señorita” was also responsible for igniting Mendes and Cabello’s love story, according to E!News. The couple first bonded together when they did their first collaboration “During 'I Know What You Did Last Summer” but it did not develop into something romantic because the timing was not yet right.

It was only when they worked together for their second collaboration, “Señorita,” that everything fell into place. “The timing wasn't right before but it is right right now,” an insider told E! News. “They are going for it without holding back.”

Cabello also revealed that working with Mendes once more in making “Señorita” was what started their relationship. “We've always been there for each other,” the singer said. “I think we drifted just because we weren't hanging out as much and so, it was just fun to be able to reconnect and hang out again.”

Mendes confirmed that they officially started dating shortly after the song was released last June. “We haven't been dating for that long,” Shawn said. “We've been dating since July 4 officially.”
