Sherlock Season 4 Special
Full-length trailer arrives for "Sherlock" victorian Christmas special. BBC

We've finally got some real news to share with fans wanting more regarding season four of "Sherlock." Steven Moffat spoke with Collider, and finally gave an indication of when production will begin on the fourth installment of the hit-series.

Moffat revealed that co-creator Mark Gatiss will begin writing season four soon, that is if he already hasn't started. Moffat also stated once he finishes the "Doctor Who" Christmas special he will be jumping right into production for "Sherlock."

"We haven’t started, but we’ve planned," Moffat said. "We know what we’re doing. Haha. Or we think we know what we think we’re doing. There are a couple of things we’ve got lined up that are really quite strong surprises, but we’ll see." As for when they'll start actually filming Moffat said, "I think we’re shooting next year, April-ish."

So there you have it, filming and production for season four of "Sherlock" will begin in April-ish. Before that fans will get a one-off "Sherlock" special set in the Victorian era. That episode will reunite Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as detective duo Sherlock and Watson and is expected to arrive Christmas 2015.

No official synopsis has been released for the coming Christmas special but we do know that it is to be based on the short story "The Red-Headed League." This summer at San Diego Comic-Con we were treated to a full clip, showing Holmes and Watson returning to 221b Baker Street after successfully completing an investigation, and dealing with a peeved Mrs. Hudson.

Now we've got a bit more footage from the latest BBC trailer featuring all its upcoming fall and winter programs, which kicks off with a short scene of Holmes lighting a pipe and saying, "From the beginning, then." We also see Amanda Abbington who was introduced in season three as Mary Morstan, but this appears to be from the crime drama series "Cuffs" rather than "Sherlock."
