A shocking video of a 23-year-old woman being abducted from her home by a group of 17 men, including her alleged stalker, has surfaced online.

In a 46-second distressing video, a group of men can be seen forcefully carrying a woman out of her home in Mayiladuthurai in India’s Tamil Nadu, as her family members desperately scream for help.

According to reports, the woman was kidnapped at knifepoint by her stalker and his friends after she rejected his marriage proposal.

The woman was rescued within hours after the abduction, police said. Eight men including the prime accused were arrested by the Mayiladuthurai police.

The arrest was made after a special investigation team led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Mayiladuthurai, M Vasantharaj tracked down the vehicle used for the kidnapping and traced the mobile number of one of the gang members.

"The prime accused in this case Vigneshwaran is known to the woman. She had rejected his proposal to get married, so along with his friend Vigneshwaran, he tried to kidnap her. The 17-member gang came in a Scorpio car and on bikes. We had issued an alert for the car and it was spotted at Vikravandi toll plaza and the girl was rescued," Vasantharaj, The Indian Express reported.

The accused have been booked under sections 307 (attempt to Murder), 366 (kidnapping), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons), 294 b (abuse), 452 (trespassing), among others, of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Arms Act.

A lookout notice was released for the remaining 9 suspects involved in the shocking abduction.

"We have listed 18 people as accused in connection with this incident. Till Wednesday, seven people were arrested and remanded. Today (Thursday), we have arrested two more people and we believe we will nab all the members involved in this kidnapping soon," DSP Vasantharaj said.

This was, however, not the first kidnapping attempt. CCTV visuals from July 12 show the botched abduction where Vigneshwaran can be seen trying to drag the woman out of her house in broad daylight.

Police said they had received a complaint from the girl’s family members and were searching for the suspect, who was absconding until he appeared at the woman’s home for the second kidnapping attempt.
