Gamers who have been aching to play “The Sims 4” but are unable to do so due to costs involved are in for a treat starting October.

Electronic Arts announced that starting Oct. 18, 2022, the fourth installment will be made free to everyone. This means that gamers will be able to download the base game for free across all platforms.

However, that is not all that is happening on Oct 18. A special video stream will also reveal future “Sims 4” content.

Moreover, folks who may have already gotten the game receive the upcoming Desert Luxe pack free of charge in a promotion lasting from September 14 to October 17.

Regardless, getting the base game for free should suffice for folks wanting to check out why “The Sims 4” has been growing in popularity. But in the eyes of critics, this move of EA is undoubtedly a ploy to get more people in the game and divert potential sales earnings that would come from numerous expansion packs.

Tied to this, it cannot be discounted that by making “The Sims 4” free that a new installment may be coming next. This is about “The Sims 5” which could be following shortly.

A live service format is something that has been teased time and again, something that would also make sense with the recent developments. However, it would take a lot to see that happen, building a Sims game that is capable of making the most out of living service from the ground up.

Aside from making “The Sims 4” free starting Oct. 18 as well as a video presentation of additional content coming, it remains to be seen what else Electronic Arts will showcase next month.

The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
