If you and your family seek a refuge and getaway from this brutal winter, Skyscanner, the global travel search engine, published a list of the best destinations. Whether you've spent the season covered in snow or battling the flu epidemic, it's time to plan your spring break. Skyscanner has collected information from its 60 million monthly users to identify the best deals and destinations to take advantage of during spring break.

Spring is usually reserved for more conventional destinations but 2018 may become the year of changes. Although there are five destinations that continue to lead searches for travelers (including New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Las Vegas, and London), there are many exciting international destinations that are in the searches, such as, Tokyo, Paris, and Bangkok. Travelers can explore international and domestic destinations with incredible savings, such as:

  • Bangkok - book 11 weeks in advance to achieve 54% savings.
  • Paris - reserve 7 weeks in advance to achieve 47% savings.
  • Punta Cana, Dominican Republic - book 12 weeks in advance to achieve 45% savings.
  • Nassau - book 11 weeks in advance to achieve 34% savings.
  • Puerto Vallarta - book 10 weeks in advance to achieve 34% savings.
  • Amsterdam - book 7 weeks in advance to achieve 34% savings.
  • San Juan - book 10 weeks in advance to achieve 20% savings.
  • Cancun - book 10 weeks in advance to achieve 20% savings.
  • San Francisco - book 7 weeks in advance to achieve 20% savings.
  • Honolulu - book 9 weeks in advance to achieve 15% savings.

Travelers want to take longer trips during the spring, and Skyscanner reveals reserve trends to date. Given the number of reservations for longer flights or international destinations, Skyscanner has seen an increase in the number of travelers booking long trips, for example:

  • 9% book 7-day trips
  • 7% have booked 8-day trips
  • 6% have booked 9-day trips
  • Skyscanner has also seen that travelers choose to travel during less traditional days to achieve greater savings
  • 16 percent travel on a Monday or Tuesday
  • 15 percent travel on a Wednesday

The destinations were chosen based on historical flight data collected during March and April of 2017. Skyscanner data revealing the best time to make reservations was collected during the same period of time, using the average cost of a flight departing from the United States to the city of destination.
