"Star Wars Episode VII" will be released December 18, 2015 Entertainment Weekly reports. Lucasfilm has announced that, despite some script rewrites, the film will not pushed back but will rather make it in time for the holiday season, 2015. Disney studio chief Alan Horn confirmed the release date today, banishing rumors the production was delayed. "We're very excited to share the official 2015 release date for 'Star Wars: Episode VII'," he said. "It will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture."
"Star Wars Episode VII" will be directed by Star Trek director JJ Abrams. This will be the first "Star Wars" film since 2005's "Episode III: Revenge of the Sith." While still commercially successful, the three "Star Wars" prequels were almost universally panned by critics. The new film will be written by "Empire Strikes Back" co-writer Lawrence Kasdan. Hopefully the team will be able to breath new life into the struggling franchise. The script was originally going to be written by "Hunger Games" writer Michael Arndt, however, the information released today reveals Abrams and Kasdan will co-write the script.
"Star Wars Episode VII" will commence filming in London's Pinewood Studios in the spring. Disney also announced that the sci-fi drama "Tomorrowland," directed by Brad Bird, will be released in May 22, 2015.
