Former Miss USA Susie Castillo is teaming up with other past contestant winners for a PETA campaign against fur. The beautiful Puerto Rican/Dominican 2003 Miss USA was joined by Shanna Moakler (1995), Shandi Finnessey (2004), and Alyssa Campanella (2011) for a stripped down photo shoot against fur.
PETA is known for its anti-fur campaigns sometimes going to the extreme of throwing red paint on unsuspecting people wearing Fur. This new ad shows the Miss USA winners in their birthday suits with a caption reading,
"Feel Beautiful in Your Own Skin and Let Animals Keep Theirs. Say No To Fur."
The four lovely ladies are featured in the ad as a way to get the pageant industry to adopt a no fur policy. They stand pressed against one another with their hands covering intimate areas, staring sensually into the camera.
In a campaign video that accompanies the ad the Miss America winners explain why they chose to get involved with PETA.
"The reason I wanted to get involved with PETA is because I've been an animal lover all my life," Castillo said. "The more I learned of the torture that animals go through in the name of fashion, I just think it's so unnecessary."
"It's unbelievable to me actually," Castillo continues. "So I thought if there's something I can do to get my fellow pageant sisters together and for us to take a stand, united and tell the pageant industry not to support the fur industry."
"I feel so blessed that they all agreed and here we are, making this happen," Castillo said.
The other Miss USA pageant winners agree with the no fur cause PETA is behind. They all explain that they have had animals their whole lives and consider them family. Shandi Finnessey said she would rather be naked than wear fur which has been a PETA slogan for years.
"When it comes to the anti-fur campaigns it's really close to my heart," said former Miss USA Shanna Moakler. "Being in pageantry I've been awarded fur coats and I'm hoping to stop it in our pageant community."
In the PETA video Shandi Finnessey discussed a situation in which she won a pageant and was awarded a fur. Following that event she was asked by the trappers association to come in and sign autographs. She explained how disgusted she felt when people were showing her images of trapped animals they had caught, chewing at their own paws in an attempt to free themselves.
"I was so disgusted that I would wear this skin of this living being on my body and consider myself beautiful."
There are still pageants that give out fur coats as prizes to winners. The four former Miss USA winners hope their skin showing ad will convince contests to abandon the fur coat prizes.
Over the years PETA has used a lot of celebrities for their "I'd rather be naked than wear fur" campaigns. Other famous faces that have stripped down in the name of animal rights include, Wendy Williams, Roselyn Sanchez, Holly Madison and Olivia Munn.
