A suspect was taken into custody after the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at an event on Utah Valley University's campus, revealed the FBI and the governor of Utah, Spencer Fox. This is the second person detained for the murder, although the first person was released soon after.

The FBI director Kash Patel had announced the news on his X (Twitter) account. "The subject for the horrific shooting today that took the life of Charlie Kirk is now in custody. Thank you to the local and state authorities in Utah for your partnership with@fbi

We will provide updates when able."

Soon after, Fox confirmed the news and added that the suspect had dark clothing but didn't give any more details.

According to The New York Times, initially, a university police spokesperson confirmed the quick arrest following the incident at Kirk's speaking engagement. According to the initial reports, the suspect fired a rifle from 200 yards away inside the Losee Center, where Kirk was hosting an event.

Identified as Ellen Treanor, the spokeswoman said, "Mr. Kirk was struck about 20 minutes after he began speaking on campus," and then added that "a suspect had fired at Mr. Kirk from the Losee Center, a building about 200 yards away, and has been taken into custody. The suspect was not a student."

However, a report from the AP on the site added that he wasn't considered the main suspect.
