We all experienced quite an eventful year in 2015, but it's time to welcome 2016 with a bang. Sydney, Australia, is the first major city to welcome the New Year and their dazzling fireworks display is among the most iconic in the world.

To put the time difference in perspective, the Sydney New Year's Eve fireworks and celebrations will kick off 16 hours ahead of the iconic New Year Ball Drop in New York City. According to the Sydney New Year's Eve schedule, the celebrations will begin at 6:00 p.m. in Australia's NSW time, or 2:oo a.m. U.S. eastern time on Dec. 31.

This year, Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore promised a “vibrant, diverse and beautiful” night both for those attending in person and the more than one billion TV viewers worldwide, according to the Huffington Post Australia. The 9:00 p.m. fireworks will feature flora and fauna inspired projections in a sparkling tribute to the 200th year of Sydney’s Royal Botanic Garden and 100 years of Taronga Zoo.
